Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community refrained from engaging with the creationists in fear that doing so could give the movement more credibility. But silence is no any longer an option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. However, this is just one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which can cause variations in genes or even whole genomes. Over many generations these changes could lead to the emergence new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with less advantageous traits. This differing reproduction may eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word meaning unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings over the years as it has taken form in the fields of science and in other fields. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist pupil who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species evolve into new species in a gradual and predictable way.
In recent years, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living organisms develop traits that improve their chances of survival or the ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can lead a population to develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the most evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the growth in the muscle mass as a result of exercise or diet cannot be considered examples of evolution since they are not passed on to future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and thousands of scientific experiments, creationists have seized on the notion that the theory is controversial to argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their campaign to exclude evolution from textbooks for high school which includes the removal of any references to the evolutionary roots of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur thought to be an ancestral bird's parent.
Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It also serves as a basis of biology that helps scientists to comprehend how living organisms operate and grow. Evolution also reveals the relationships between different species. Scientists study evolution in order to better understand nature and make useful discoveries like new medicines.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe and life on Earth and has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over the course of many years. Many people, including some religious leaders, believe in the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs, as the theory is based on objects, events and processes within the physical world.
In fact many religious individuals have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolution. Certain Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share a common ancestry to other animals.
It is essential that science educators stand up for teaching evolution. Unfortunately, in some countries around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is vital to remember, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, including fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. This belief is based on various reasons. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions, such as developing medications or developing new medicines, while others are driven by a desire to improve animal and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have an intense belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. While Creationists may not all be Christian but they are a majority. Creationists are typically divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The most common type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the manner described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the first six days of creation is literal and that the universe as well as life on Earth were only created recently.
OECs aren't as well-known however their beliefs are just as passionate as those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions of years old, and believe that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life started on Earth. They claim that evolution isn't possible because it would require the creation of a miracle, and the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution and also special creation. 에볼루션게이밍 consider their views to be "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of the created species." This theory states that God creates species from scratch and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species that are similar to the original.
Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in one event, referred to as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all species were created at the same time and then slowly evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution at schools. This is supported by a variety of professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some academic institutions and scientists are more flexible, and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.

What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. The publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they will remove references to evolution in their editions. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. STR has won its first victory by eliminating instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx in textbooks. It is now focusing on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution too.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families as well as individual members. The goal, according to STR, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an unflattering image for students. 바카라 에볼루션 aims to counteract the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear, but may include religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists in the country.
The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was an educational textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. It sparked interest among college communities. In 1991 an academic and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university and it is taught to this day.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to an audience of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
